During the March 17, 2010, School Board meeting, Miami-Dade County Public School Board Member, Dr. Martin S. Karp took the time to recognize Detective Melody Mitchell for her dedication and exemplary work performance during a missing child recovery case.
On Saturday, February 6, 2010, Super Bowl weekend, Detective Mitchell was contacted to assist in locating a Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School Student, a young girl who did not come home from school the previous day. The parents filed a missing persons report with the Miami-Dade Police Department. Although it is not permitted to disclose the particulars of the investigation it was very clear that her safety was in extreme peril. Detective Mitchell worked nonstop hand in hand with the child
