DUI Initiative
Prior to the Holiday Break, the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department (M-DSPD) participated in a multiagency checkpoint initiative to identify individuals who were Driving Under the Influence (DUI). The DUI Checkpoint was hosted by the South Miami Police Department which took place at 63rd Avenue at South Dixie Highway, on both the Northbound and Southbound lanes. This initiative supports the efforts of our agency in preparing for prom season, graduation and the holidays to keep our streets and roadways safe.

By the end of the operation, which concluded at 4:00 a.m., police issued a total of 256 traffic citations, made 34 arrests, of which 17 were DUI related. Officers’ John Marinelli and Charlie Lopez represented M-DSPD in this operation, joining a number of Chiefs of Police that supported the initiative.
