Homestead Job Corps

 

Miami-Dade Schools Police Department (M-DSPD), Chief Charles Hurley, presented Mr. Bill Derr, from the Homestead Job Corps Auto Collision Repair program with a certificate of appreciation. Mr. Derr and his students were instrumental in assisting our department during these difficult economic times by providing their services at a minimal cost to the Department.

The Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 to learn a career, earn a high school diploma or GED, and find a good job through vocational and academic training. Funded by Congress, Job Corps has been training young adults for meaningful careers since 1964.

Mr. Derr and his students worked on two of the MDSPD marked units in need of auto body work, which in turn resulted in the Department
