Touchdown!

On the weekend of December 3, 2011, members of the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department (M-DSPD) participated in the Air-It-Out National Flag Football Tournament hosted by Red Zone Sports at Tamiami Park.

The two-day tournament consisted of over 50 teams of different ages and experience levels. The M-DSPD team consisted of Commander Edwin Lopez, Officers Anthony Alonso and Brian Hernandez, as well as G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School teacher Armando Viltre. The team went undefeated and won the championship in their division. The team presented the championship trophy to Chief Charles J. Hurley at M-DSPD Headquarters where it will be kept on display.

The tournament was a great opportunity to not only unite the police department and the educators of the District, but also to bond with various elementary, middle and high school students who were at the event, both as spectators and also participants in the juvenile division.

“Any time our agency gets the platform to build strong ties with our youth and community, via sports and other child centered programs, everyone wins. Congratulations to our champions for children,” stated Chief Hurley.
